Does your game involve generative AI that creates content?

Generative AI produces new images, audio, text, dialogue, or code. It is not the same as traditional game AI. Pathfinding, enemy behavior, physics, and non-ML procedural generation have been standard for decades, and Valve's policy is not about them.

Does any AI-generated content ship in the game, or run in it, where players experience it?

The tool you used is not the question. What the player sees, or what actually runs in the game, is. This covers in-game art, audio, and dialogue, AI-written code that ships, AI localization of shipped text, your Steam store page and marketing assets, and Steam Community content.

Development-only uses Valve's January 2026 rewrite treats as exempt: GitHub Copilot and other code-assist tools, concept art used for ideation but not shipped, porting and optimization work, and efficiency tools whose output does not appear in the shipped game.

When is the AI content created?

Valve splits this into two separate disclosures, and you may owe both.

Does the live AI ever generate Adult Only Sexual Content?

Live AI-generated content is allowed on Steam if you disclose it and describe your guardrails. There is one exception that has no path to approval.
